This policy explains what information Sous Chef collects, why, and the choices you have. We built Sous Chef to help you cook, not to build a profile of you — so we keep data collection to what the app actually needs to work.
Sous Chef is designed to work with as little personal data as possible. Depending on how you use the app, we may collect:
Account information
If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password (or your Sign in with Apple / Google identifier, if you use those).
Content you create
Recipes you save, shopping lists, meal plans, notes, and preferences (dietary restrictions, cuisine preferences, skill level) that you enter into the app.
Device & usage data
Device type, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and general usage patterns (e.g. which features are opened) collected automatically to keep the app stable and improve it.
Optional permissions
If granted, camera access (to scan ingredients or receipts) and notification access (for cooking timers and reminders). Both are optional and used only for the feature you enabled them for.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive categories of data (health, financial, biometric, or precise location) unless a specific feature explicitly asks for and explains that need at the time.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information.
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on servers with access controls and encryption at rest. We retain your data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the app's features. You can request deletion at any time — see Your choices & rights.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We work to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on where you live (e.g. EEA/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA), you may have additional rights, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact us and we'll help.
Sous Chef is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as Sous Chef evolves. If a change is material, we'll notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The "Effective date" above always reflects the latest version.
